Artist-painter

Jean-Pierre Frey

Jean-Pierre Frey was born in January 1955. Jean-Pierre follows his father’s paths who was an artist and painter in Montmartre – Paris, France – a kind of a French artistic children’s care home. The smell of oil paints, of turpentine, the magazines and books of Art are spread all over the small family workshop and belong to the stimulating world where the budding artist grows up. Blessed with a natural talent for drawing, Jean-Pierre Frey can’t bear any obligations, so very young, he naturally begins to draw people’s portrait who wander in « Place du Tertre », the artistic heart of Montmartre.

The artist never stops improving. Enjoying free time thanks to his activity, he enrolls evening classes at the famous Art School named « Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux Arts », Bonaparte street in Paris, where he acquires classic and well-established fundamentals.
At this period of time his passion for sailing emerges and he takes advantage of every winter to discover new walks of life, new landscapes, new people and new sources of inspiration.
In 1991 he is shortlisted by the Europ’Art Geneva Committee (International Art trade show in Geneva). A full year at work and all his savings are necessary to prepare this exhibition where he mainly displays figurative pieces. This is the real beginning of his artistic career.
During this exhibition, he successfully meets famous Arts dealers; with them, he disrupts lots of routine habits, and becomes one of the five best sold painters in France.
In 1994, as he displays his work in Artexpo -New-York City-; the Fort Lauderdale Museum in Florida buys one of his pieces.

In 1997, a key moment for him, Jean-Pierre meets Caroline. She already knows the artist as she sells his work in the Art Gallery she runs in Megève (near Switzerland). The day of their meeting, Caroline’s sharp eye, through his paintings, has already pierced Jean-Pierre’s shield and knows how to move the man who hides behind it. They will stay together forever.

2000 is the year of the new millennium but also the year of a new life. They both quit their professional activities and, with their children, sail around the world.
After the Bahamas, they reach Florida in 2003 where their kids go to school.
Jean-Pierre takes advantage of adding one more string to his bow by getting graduated from the famous Design and Decoration School “Faux Effects” (Vero Beach, Florida), with Designers Sessions One and Two.

In 2005, doing a stopover in Dominican Republic and being amazed by the possibilities of this country, the versatile artist learns carpentry, cabinet making and marquetry.
He creates a line of Art furniture that he draws and builds by himself.
He opens his Art Gallery « Elementos » in the Marina Casa de Campo – Dominican Republic- to display his new work. The success is immediate.
In the meantime, he shares his time during three months as the main artist in the “Escuela de Diseno”, Altos de Chavon, affiliated to the Parsons School of Design in New York City.

From 2012 to 2014, he sails in the French West Indies and works on his travel book: collage, drawing, calligraphy, etc. which shape his work nowadays.
Caroline and Jean-Pierre arrive in Polynesia in 2014. Both fell under the spell of the native population’s charm and are impressed by the landscape they discover.
The well- being, due to a warm welcome and to the kindness of people they meet on each island that they reach, the colors of the lagoon, the beauty of valleys and hilly areas give him the desire to paint again…, he finds another new source of inspiration.
In 2016, after almost one year of preparation, of thoughts, researches and hard work, their brand-new Workshop and Gallery « Bora Bora Artist Studio » is finally ready to welcome, in Vaitape beside the lagoon of Bora Bora, the Art lovers.
Caroline and Jean-Pierre suggest you to discover their paintings on canvas and Art prints realized by Jean Pierre in the Caribbean, Tahiti and Bora Bora.
